L.E. Simmons, Chairman of SCF Partners, founded the firm in 1989. He is responsible for guidance over the firm’s investment program and strategy. L.E. began his focus on finance at the University of Utah, where he majored in Economics and also studied at the London School of Economics. He subsequently earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. L.E. helped launch the Corporate Finance Department at The First National Bank of Chicago before moving to Texas in 1974 to be co-founder of Simmons & Company International, an investment banking firm specializing in oilfield service companies.
Following a significant downturn in the energy business in the 1980s, L.E. founded SCF Partners. Through SCF, he has guided the investment of over $2.5 billion in private equity capital used to build energy service and equipment companies. SCF has helped to build 16 public companies listed on the U.S. and Canadian stock exchanges, some of which are among the largest companies in the oil service industry today.
L.E. currently serves on the boards of Sinclair Oil Corporation, and the Ellison Ranching Company. He is also active in the non-profit sector, currently serving on boards of or associated with the Sam Houston Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Houston Endowment, Harvard Business School, Rice University, The London School of Economics, Texas Children’s Hospital, The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation and the Energy Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
