L.E. Simmons

Founder and Partner

L.E. founded the firm in 1989. Through SCF, he has guided the investment of over $2.5 billion in private equity capital used to build energy services, equipment, and technology companies. 17 of these companies have gone public on US and Canadian stock exchanges, some of which are among the largest companies in the energy service industry today. L.E. still assists in managing the firm’s investment strategy and mentoring the younger team.

L.E. began his focus on finance at the University of Utah, where he majored in Economics and also studied at the London School of Economics. He subsequently earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. L.E. helped launch the Corporate Finance Department at The First National Bank of Chicago before moving to Texas in 1974 to be co-founder of Simmons & Company International, an investment banking firm specializing in oilfield service companies.

Active in the non-profit sector, L.E. currently serves on boards of or associated with the Sam Houston Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Houston Endowment, Harvard Business School, Rice University, The London School of Economics, Texas Children’s Hospital, The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation and the Energy Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He also currently serves on the boards of Sinclair Oil Corporation, and the Ellison Ranching Company.
